Doing live music during Covid was always hard, but this was a joy. This comes from that first Covid Christmas, and we worked so hard at recording a worship set that could be really special and memorable for people who had just had a very hard year.

We separated the band into a choir rehearsal room in the back, which we transformed into a Christmas wonderland by putting every piece of Christmas decoration we would normally have put out in the church into one room. We had layers of Christmas lights, wreaths, ornaments, a dozen Christmas trees, two sets of backyard rope lights, and every LED light we could scrounge up. Then we put the singers on stage and packed a bunch of lights in the background behind every camera shot.

We were far enough into Covid then that we’d figured out how to keep people safer, so in addition to the locked-off and robotic cameras we’d been using, we were able to put a few manned cameras into the mix, too, and we got all the singers on the stage together for one final song before we finished.

I think every one of these performances is special. Enjoy.
